Did you know? The Glebe Community Centre was built in the 1970s by public subscription; It is owned by the Community and is managed by local residents; Anyone can join the Management committee providing they share the organisations charitable aims and live locally.

In March 2018, following a three-month pilot scheme, the current Management Committee led by the Chair Stephen Laing, entered into an exciting partnership arrangement with Onsite Building Trust which aims to take advantage of Onsite’s expertise and experience in Community Centre management and to ensure more local people can benefit from the social, educational and recreational activities the building provides.

The partnership arrangement centres around Onsite managing the Glebe social media presence, improve communication with customers, and promoting regular weekly activities to a wider audience to strengthen group membership.

Onsite will also provide a full time customer service telephone line and support the committee with financial management and good governance.

Onsite are also working with local councillors and the committee to secure grant funding to replace windows and doors and have applied for Big Lottery Grant Funding to cover the cost of installation a new modern kitchen for centre users to use.

Current kitchen facilities are dated and no longer meet the needs of users. The application to the Big Lottery Fund aims to secure £10,000 to create a new kitchen area and serving hatch where groups can prepare and cook food and to enable the Centre to cater for larger community led events such as craft fairs and community consultations.

The Committee feel that these improvements will create a more welcoming environment for both existing and new community Groups and safeguard the Centres long term future.
